Yuke Yuke Monkey Fail…I mean, Dance – Berryz Koubou

I don’t like this single. I want this single to go die in a fire. Don’t get me wrong, parts of it are okay, I guess, but the whole package? Ugh.
Well, time to review the positive and not-so-positive parts of this single.

Song
The song was okay. Some parts were bearable, but some parts were just so annoying that my brother told me to turn it off. And he actually likes a lot of H!P songs I show him. The tiki-tiki-tiki noises pissed the hell out of me because they were too much like the “jing-jing-jingisukan!” parts of Dschinghis Khan. ºC-ute gets actual lyrics, and Berryz Koubou gets to make a bunch of noises? I prefer ºC-ute to Berryz Koubou, but this is just getting unfair. Also, why does Risako get so many “serious” lines? The same can be said about Miyabi and Momoko, but I like their voices. Risako is just like, how can I say this? There’s a cat tangled up in her vocal cords, and every time she tries to sing, the cat just yowls. Too harsh?
Positive: Chinami and other Berryz got lines (which is not happening in ºC-ute…), and they were great with them! Chinami has a pretty cute voice. Now that she’s getting more attention for being hot, she’ll probably be getting some more lines! However, Yurina was cool. I hope Chinami and Maasa’s new lines don’t mean Yurina loses lines.

PV
This PV is a huge letdown. This is basically a dance shot with them in monkey suits and regular outfits (more on the outfits later). They have close ups, regular outfit shots and monkey outfit shots. That’s really boring and it seems a bit lower budget than other singles. The switches between monkey and regular were annoying and near the end, when they switch five times in a row, I got kind of dizzy.
Also, that gigantic banana in the background is just strange. Are they trying to pull a Koharu and put random stuff in the background of their shots? Because having a gigantic star seems a lot cooler than a gigantic banana.
Positive: Most of the girls looked really cute in their regular outfits (Monkey outfits, not so much). Also, there was a Saki sighting! I thought the rare Saki was extinct, but she’s not! Call the media!

Outfits
Half of these outfits are good. I’m talking about the non-monkey half. Those outfits were cute, if not a little weird because they were all wearing the same thing. Why not be like ºC-ute and get separate outfits for each girl? Why not get Chinami some booty shorts because everyone likes Chinami-legs?
It’s weird that Miyabi, Momoko and Risako get purple skirts while everyone else gets pinkish skirts. I guess it sort of makes sense because they’re usually in the middle, so they make the outfits seem a little more varied. The monkey outfits are just not good. I don’t think they’re cute. They could have let the girls leave their hair outside of the costume, but they had to make everyone have creepy round heads. Also, the leg portion is too tight and I think it looks weird. Like when people are wearing skinny jeans that are so tight that they can’t move without ripping their jeans.
I had hope for this single when I saw the outfits on the covers, but they didn’t even wear those outfits. Actually, Risako’s outfit for the cover looks kind of like the outfits they wore in the PV! How strange.
Positive: There is no positive when you see Berryz girls dancing in monkey outfits.

Dance
I will link a video of the dance shot when it’s released. Oh wait, this is practically a dance shot. Refer to PV for the dance.
I think the beginning of the dance looked good. Pretty much like most H!P dances. Then they started dancing like monkeys (monkies?) and that was not cool.
Positive: The dance was okay in some parts, again, such as the beginning.

Overall: 5.5/10
Unlike Wendy, I would really prefer it if Berryz got more songs like the ones ºC-ute and MM have been getting. A serious song is okay every now and then, especially if Berryz has been getting singles like Dschinghis Khan thrown at them.
